Today, more and more young people are engaging in sports, fitness, and physical activity from an early age. This trend is accompanied by a growing need for safe, structured, and truly adapted coaching that supports their development.

Working with a youth population offers a unique opportunity to positively influence their long-term health, habits, and relationship with movement. It requires a specific understanding of their physiological and developmental differences compared to adults, as well as a pedagogical approach adapted to their age, maturity, and experience level.

The NASM™ Youth Fitness Specialization provides you with the skills needed to effectively support young clients in their physical and motor development within a safe, progressive, and engaging training environment.

You will learn how to adapt strength training, cardiovascular training, plyometrics, coordination, and motor skill development to the specific needs of children and adolescents, while taking into account key growth and developmental stages.

This specialization is a valuable asset to expand your coaching practice, reach a broader audience, and actively contribute to building a strong foundation for the long-term health and performance of young clients.

The NASM™ Youth Fitness Specialization program is structured around 3 essential sections covering the skills needed to effectively coach youth in a safe and structured environment.

Chapter 1: The science of youth exercise
Understanding the physiological, neuromuscular, and developmental characteristics of children and adolescents to properly adapt training.

Chapter 2: Fitness & training guidelines for youth
Learning how to design safe and appropriate training sessions while applying principles of progression, safety, and physical development.

Chapter 3: Development for youth clients
Supporting the overall development of young clients by considering growth, motivation, motor skills, and individual needs.

Learning Materials

Exams

The course concludes with one theoretical exam.

The final exam is administered online via the learning platform. It consists of 60 multiple-choice questions to be completed within a maximum of 90 minutes. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the course. Three exam attempts are included in the course fee.

The exam must be completed within 365 days from the date of purchase.

Qualification

After successfully passing the multiple-choice exam, you will receive the "NASM™ Youth Exercise Specialization" certificate on your NASM™ account.

To participate in this course, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a NASM™ Certified Personal Trainer certification (or equivalent).
